Mrs. Oakes, nee Jean Doswell, died 3 months short of her 93rd birthday. She was the widow of David Oakes, a scion of the prominent Oakes family, who had made their fortune in the textile industry. Predeceased by her husband, who was more than 18 years her senior, in 1947, she was buried beside him after her death 33 years later. Their grave is marked by a large, pyramidal boulder which is rustically inscribed with the name "OAKES", and a bronze plaque. The site is located on a low hill a short distance south of the older Oakes Family plot; two steps and a short footpath lead up to it.
