Hazel Christine Osterbuhr was born on July 24, 1928 in Minden to Andrew and Grace (Johansen) Norgaard. She grew up in the Heartwell, Norman and Minden area where she attended country school and later graduated from Minden High School. She was united in marriage to Elmer Osterbuhr on June 23, 1955 in Hildreth and to this union, three children were born: Wanda, Linda, and Andrea. The family made their home in Hildreth where Hazel enjoyed being a homemaker and helping on the family farm. She also lived in Kearney, Alma and Kenesaw.
Hazel was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hildreth, enjoyed playing Bingo and card games with family, sewing, crocheting, coffee, collecting Avon and going to garage sales. She also enjoyed watching game shows on TV. During her later years, she absolutely loved seeing her granddaughters and her great-grandchildren.
“Hazel was the purest woman we knew, we all watched her with tearful eyes in pain, being confused. 2020 was a tough year for everyone, but nothing like sitting in an empty room with your whole routine crashing down and no more visits. The whole window thing just didn’t quite work for us or her. I wish we could have done more fighting for her, it just wasn’t fair…I prayed the other night for the first time, in longer than I would like to admit, for no more confusion. I am so thankful for the last visit we had was very special. We know she is up there talking Grandpa’s ear off and playing cards. Rest easy Grandma, we’ll see you again.”
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Wanda Osterbuhr and John Buechel of Lincoln, Linda and Gregg Huerta of Hastings, and Andrea Osterbuhr and Mike Favinger of Hastings; granddaughters, Miranda Favinger and Michaela Favinger; six great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth (Pauline) Norgaard; sisters, Ramona Fisher, and Martha Wit; as well as a host of extended relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
