The fatal accident that Mrs. Charlie Ziems, met with on Wednesday April 18, is still a mystery. Mr. Ziems and the little five year old girl had gone to a neighbors for a hog, and when the children coming from school failed to find their mother at the house, started to hunt about the place and after considerable searching, heard a moaning in the corn field near the house, and there found their mother lying with all her clothing burned from her body. The children went to the nearest neighbors and reported the tragedy. The neighbors immediately returned with the children and took Mrs. Ziems to the house and called a doctor, but she was too badly burned for medical assistant. Her parents were also called to her dying bedside. She asked for a drink and thanked them and that was all she ever said. She had washed the day before and the clothes were sprinkled for ironing, but there was no (unreadable word) the house whatever.


Hannah Carolina Hoerle was born at Ontario, Canada on September 24, 1879, and departed this life at 8 p. m. on April 18th, 1923 at the age of 43 years, 6 months, and 24 days. In October 1886 she came to O'Neill, Nebraska, with her parents, later moving to Chambers, then to Clearwater, where she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage to Mr. Charlie Ziems on May 15th, 1912 at Clearwater, and have since resided on their place nine miles southwest of Ewing. To this union 7 children were born, twin boys dying in infancy in 1913, Henry and Willie nine years old whom are also twins, Pearl, seven years old, Louisa, five years old, and Arthur, who passed away four months ago at the age of nineteen months.


The deceased was a devoted mother and a daily worshipper of God, besides her husband and children, she leaves to mourn for her: her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Kasper Hoerle of Clearwater, Nebraska, seven brothers, John of Atkinson, Con, Henry, Joe, Adam, and Jake, all of Clearwater, Kasper of Bliss; four sisters, Mrs. Albert Sanders of Ontario, Canada, Mrs. John Schriber of Platte Co., Mrs. August Walters of Clearwater, and Mrs. John Haake of Chambers, and a host of Friends.


Rev. Polster of Clearwater preached the funeral sermon using as his text, Psalm 46:10, "Be Still, and know that I am God, I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth." She was laid to rest in the Lutheran cemetery west of Clearwater, in the family lot beside her baby Arthur. All of the family were present at the funeral except the oldest sister, Mrs. Sanders of Canada.
