Prime Minister of Iran. He served as prime minister on two separate occasions. First, from March 12, 1951 to April 27, 1951 and second, from April 7, 1955 to April 3, 1957. Prior to serving as prime minister, he lived his early years in London. He was educated at Westminster School and studied law at the University of London. He became interested in politics and was in the Iranian foreign ministry from 1905 to 1916. He was then appointed as the Iranian diplomatic envoy to Spain in 1920 and later as Iran's lead diplomat in Washington. He then became a member of parliament serving from 1923 to 1925. He was the governor of Bank Melli Iran from 1933 to 1934 and from 1941 to 1942. From 1934 to 1936 he was ambassador to the United Kingdom. He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 25 April 1943 to 2 March 1945. He was Iranian Ambassador to the United States from 1946 to 1950. He then became prime minister. He is best remembered for his role in the nationalization of the Anglo‐Iranian Oil Company and again in 1955, when Britain, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan and Turkey joined in the Baghdad Pact.
