CHARLES D. ECKHARDT

Charles David Eckhardt, 79, died at his home on Church Street Saturday, March 5. The Rev. Charles T. Boyd conducted a funeral service from the home Tuesday at 2 p. m. Pallbearers were Robert Cupp, Claude Ball, Frank Stoutamyer, Charles Rutherford, O. C. Ramsey and H. E. Clayton. Honorary nallbearers were Ward Myers, William Ball, Corland E. Dodd, Dr. Donald McNeill, Russell Steele, Arthur Boyd, Albert Jenkins, Carlos Ambrose, Lacy Wilkinson, Tommy Harrison, Ronald Johns, Dr. Nicholas Helu, Dr. E. L. Grubbs. Joseph Mason, Jim Simons, Chester Bass, Edward Curl and members of the local fire department. Interment was in Prospect Hill cemetery.

Mr. Eckhardt, who was a carpenter, was born here on April 3, 1880, the son of Charles Henry Eckhardt and his wife, the former Emma Hoshour. He was an honorary member of the fire department. His wife, Ada Rutherford Eckhardt, died in 1957. Surviving are five children: Henry and Joseph Eckhardt and Mrs. Elizabeth Young, here; Ernest Eckhardt in Arlington and Dudley Eckhardt in Bridgewater; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
