VELVALEE MARIAN “VAL” ARBAUGH

Velvalee Marian “Val” Arbaugh of Chestertown, MD, formerly of Vancouver, WA, passed peacefully in her sleep Feb. 2, 2021. She was 98 years old.
She was born in Dinuba, CA, the daughter of the late Walter Romaine and Katherine Elizabeth Smith. She worked in the insurance industry fresh out of high school. She then traveled with her husband, Bob, throughout the United States.
Val worked with the Red Cross in Hawaii in the late 60s and early 70s. Following Bob’s death in 2012, Val moved to Chestertown to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Val loved playing bridge with friends, online word games with her son and daughter-in-law, animals of all descriptions, travel, and her family.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cathleen and George Lehmer of Chestertown; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Debra Arbaugh of Vancouver; and by daughter-in-law, Susan Arbaugh of Salem, OR; four grandchildren; Matthew Arbaugh, Melissa Arbaugh, Jan Hirschler and Dana Varona, as well as great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Nikki, Elodie, and Lucie. She was predeceased by son, James Arbaugh, of Salem.
Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the ASPCA or the Red Cross.
