Harry James “Jim” Straub, 87, of Wooster died on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare.

Arrangements are being handled by the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.

He was born May 1, 1933 in Wooster to Harry C. and Lucille Wolf Straub.

Jim was a kind and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and husband. He gave generously of his time and resources to his family, church and local community. He was an active member of the Wooster United Methodist Church. Prior to his retirement in 1988, he spent most of his career in banking for the Central Trust Company, City Loan & Savings Company and Citizens national Bank. He graduated from Wooster High in 1951 and was very active in organizing the WHS reunions and served as an officer of the WHS Alumni & Friends organization. Jim was active in the Wooster-Madisonburg Evening Lions Club and a life member of the Wooster Elks Lodge. He loved animals so it was only natural for him to be actively involved in the Wayne County Humane Society where he served as Treasurer, newsletter editor and served on the building committee during their expansion. Jim developed polio before his sophomore year at Hiram College and was very active in the polio survivors groups. Additionally, he was a longtime volunteer at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster.

His hobby during the 80s and 90s was collecting and showing classic cars, his favorite being the Corvair. He was an active member of Friends of Corvair and the Buckeye Ramblin Rods clubs.

He is preceded in death by his best friend and wife, Linda Farmer Straub (2017), son Doug Straub (1971), son-in-law Dan Wessels (2011), former wife Millie Withrich Straub (2015) and his parents.

Surviving are children Judy Wessels, Denny (Lonnis) Straub, Jan (Pete) Goebel, Renee (Cotton) Bigham and Lori Farmer Womac; grandchildren Jamie and Kate Wessels, Nicole and Cody Straub, Jessica Wilson, Samantha Ellis, Karissa Rogers, Kassandra Trimble; sister-in-law Amy Rowland and nephew JR Rowland, and numerous great grandchildren.
