OTTO ARTHUR EXNER JUNIOR, 90, of Fort Wayne, died Wednes-day, Oct. 24, 2007, at St. Vincent Hospice, Indianapolis. Born Jan. 19, 1917, in Fort Wayne, he was the only son of the late Otto Arthur Exner Senior and Velma Ann (Baxter) Exner Bray. In 2005, he was preceded in death by his bride of 65 years, Violet Hedges Exner. He never gave up hope of joining her one day. He was a fiercely loyal and devoted father to Barbara Exner Downing (Mrs. Ronald L.) and Susan Exner Long. During World War II, he proudly served as a Carpenter Third Class aboard LSt 799 in the Pacific from June of 1944 to March of 1946. He saw Tokoyo two days after the Japanese surrendered. He spent his working years as a Journeyman Patternmaker with Allen Pattern Works, Fort Wayne. He loved to work with his hands and wood. After World War II, he built his own home on Sandpoint Road. He was a member in good standing of Summit City Lodge 170 F & AM and Ancient Order of Scottish Rite. In addition to his daughters, he is survived by two sisters, Thelma Exner Christie of Fort Wayne and Ireta Exner Danclovic of Belleville, Mich. He was grandfather to Timothy A. Downing (Brenda) of Hanford, Calif., Kristen Long, Fort Worth, Texas, Brian (Lara) and Scott (Mandy) Long of Indianapolis, and Emily Downing Mallick (David) Raleigh, N.C. He also has four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and William Downing of Hanford, Calif. and Grace and Charles Long of Indianapolis. Service commemorating his life is 2 p.m. Saturday at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave. The family will receive friends and relatives from 4 ro 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Summit City Lodge service at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Interment will follow service in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, New Haven, with Military honors provided by American Legion Post 241. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Basher Children's Home, Goshen, IN or a charity of donor's choice.
