Joseph John Takes, 73, of Washington, died Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospital. His body has been cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 4 -7 p.m. at the Wagon Wheel in Washington.

Joseph John Jakes was born February 22, 1943 in Cascade, Iowa, the son of Lloyd P. and Elda (Otting) Takes. He graduated from Monticello High School and served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, from 1967 – 1975. Joe was a truck driver for Walkers Livestock in Washington.

Survivors include two step sons: Brian (Kim) Coleman of Washington, Scott Coleman of Chicago, IL, three grandsons: Trevor Beardshear of Tiffin, IA, and Travis and Tanner Coleman of Washington, IA, 14 siblings: LJ Takes of Monitcello, IA, Jean Takes of Illinois, Joan (Dan) Manternach and Mary Kay (Ron) Ackerman of Monticello, IA, Carolyn (Jerry) Manternach of Anamosa, IA, Darlene (Steve) Wilcox of Monticello, IA, Sally (Jeff) Sawyer of Marshalltown, IA, Tom (Mary) Takes of Cedar Rapids, IA, Alan (Liz) Takes of Cascade, IA, Alice (Tom) Brighton of Monticello, IA, Carl (Jan) Takes of Anamosa, IA, Charlie "Tuna" (Tami) Takes, Robbie Takes and Bill (Vicki) Takes all of Monticello, IA.

Preceding Joe in death was his parents and one sister, Loretta Beckman, and one step son, James Coleman.
