Pauline Eliza Hansen Bargenquast, daughter of Sonky and Metta Hansen was born June 7, 1876 in Longhorn, Germany and died November 14, at her home at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 7 days.
In 1882 at the age of 6, she came with her parents to the United States and settled near Aspinwall. She received her education in the schools of that vicinity.
February 28, 1900 she was united in marriage to John D. Bargenquast at Harlan. Eight children were born to this union, three daughters of which preceded her in death. The family farmed in Shelby county and near Manilla until 1919, when they moved to manilla where they have since lived. Mrs Bargenquast enjoyed good health until last spring when she underwent major surgery and has since been failing in health.
Surviving are her husband, two sons, John and Edwin of Manilla; three daughters, Mrs Freda (Rudy) Ewoldt of Manilla; Mrs Leta (Henry) Bockelmann of Smithland; and Mrs Leora (Clifford) Amunson of Soldier. Also a brother, John of Manilla. Three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. She also leaves 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from the family home Wednesday afternoon. Rev. L.W. Nutzmann officiated at the services and burial was in the Nishnabotna cemetery. Pallbearers were Henry Hansen, Willie E. Hansen, Alfred Hansen, Ernest Hansen, Louis Hansen and Alfred Bargenquast.
