Cliff Slackney was born May 30, 1939 in Dallas, Texas and passed away April 13, 2021 in Denton, Texas.
As a child he participated in Boy Scouts and later graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in 1957 where he was in the ROTC, Allied Youth, student council and also a member of the DE club, Key club, Pan American club and most proudly the Golden Grenadiers. He then served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard. Following his time in service, he attended Arlington State (now UTA) working towards a BS Business in Administration and Management. After a few years of dating, he married Annette Rutledge on September 7, 1968.
He worked as a traveling salesman for most of his life, working for Dilly Uniform where he received several Salesman of the Year and Most Improved Salesman awards for his outstanding performance. He worked for DMI Wholesale Textiles and Ultra-Guard as well before retiring.
He was also an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rockwall for many years. He loved fishing, camping, traveling, playing pool, BBQing, old cars and was a loyal Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers fan. He was known for his love of gardening and having a console full of mints, gum, toothpicks, napkins and anything else anyone could possibly need. Cliff never met a stranger and was almost instant friends with anyone he met and always believed in treating everyone the same.
Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Tillie Hopkins Slackney, his wife, Annette Rutledge Slackney, 4 brothers and one sister. Survived by his son, Jason Slackney, daughter, Laura Fought and grand children.
