Three members of a HawkEyeland family died in a head-on collision near Eoila, Mo. at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Dead are Janell Brockway, 28, her daughter Gayle, 19 months and her son Karl, three months. They are the daughter and grandchildren of Donald and Evelyn Keener Benz, 919 N. Eighth.
The father, Second Lt. Charles Brockway; and a son David, 3 are hospitalized at St. Peters, Mo., with multiple injuries and are in stable condition.
The Missouri Highway Patrol said Brockway, 28, was taking his family to a new post in Georgia when his station wagon crossed the center line of US 61 and crashed into a truck.
The family had been visiting the Benzes and Brockway's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Brockway, Wayland. Brockway had been transferred from Ft. Leavenworth, Kan.
Janell Brockway was born in Burlington, Aug. 14, 1953. She graduated from Burlington High School was a Morman missionary in California before she married Charles Brockway June 6, 1978 in Washington, D.C.
Surviving besides her husband, son and parents are six brothers, Charles Benz, West Burlington, and Terry, Randall, Kevin, Roger and Darren Benz, all of Burlington; sister, Joyce Heckenburg, Burlington and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Benz , Fairwater, Wis.
The children born at Ft. Leavensworth in 1980 and last April, also leave as immediate survivors a great-grandmother, Florence Stout of Burlington.
Joint funeral 10am, Saturday, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Bishop Terry L. Griffith, Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
