NORTH JACKSON – There will be services at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church in North Jackson for Joseph M. "Mike" Bieda, 64, of Palmyra Road, who died of lung cancer Monday morning at his residence following a six-month illness. He was born March 15, 1938 in Washington, Pa., a son of Joseph M. and Lucy E Barrett Bieda. A 1956 graduate of Sharon High School, Mr. Bieda was a pipefitter by trade and had worked at GM Lordstown as a skilled trades committeeman for the UAW Local No. 112. He had also served in the U.S. Army. He was an avid Steelers fan and enjoyed football, basketball, golf and especially spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Bieda is survived by his wife, the former Arlene Meier, whom he married May 28, 1960; two daughters, Denise (Don) Martell of Aurora and Darlene (Mark) Wolanzyk of Mineral Ridge; a son, Dennis M. (Donita) of North Jackson; and seven grandchildren, Jake and Shelby Martell, Bailee Wolanzyk, and Josh, Nicole, Courtney and Morgan Bieda. Friends may call 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel and from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Ireland Cancer Center at University Hospitals in Cleveland. 10-01-02
