He was a very good athlete in school and was the pitcher for his little league baseball team and the Fullback for his high school football team. He registered for military service in 1974. He served as a Corporal in the USMC as a naval ordinance man, from 5 August 1974 to 12 September 1978. He died on 20 February 1993, in Lincoln, Lancaster, Nebraska, United States, at the age of 37, and was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg, Phillips, Kansas, United States.
