Jim was a 1961 alumnus of Trinity High School and attended Bellarmine and Sullivan Universities. He worked at Lee McClain Co. in Shelbyville, then later for Meijer. One of his greatest vocations and gifts was being a caregiver for his parents throughout their lives.
As one of the most dedicated, influential and iconic members of the German-American Club, Jim earned the designation of President Emeritus after serving as President for 25 years. He served on the Board of Directors, was an Honorary Member and Honorary Singer and served as Secretary of The SOKII district of the North American Saengerbund. He was the "Chief cook and bottle washer at all GAC events. Within the walls of the German-American Club, Jim's laughter and storytelling will be sadly missed, but his legacy will live on.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, August Bernard and Odelia (Wuebker) Boeckmann, brother, August F. Boeckmann, and sister Carolyn E. Gahlinger. He is survived by a brother, Richard H. Boeckmann (Bev), sister Patricia A. Stout (Wendell-deceased), nieces and nephews, Brad Stout, B.J. Stout (Tiffany), Alison Harris (Pat), Colleen Boeckmann, Greg Fischer, Scott Fischer (Lori), Leigh Ann Fuller (Billy), Rick Boeckmann (Tiffany), Ron Gahlinger (Missy), Karen Nelson (Brad), 16 great nieces and nephews, and 5 great-grand nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be from 2-4 pm Sunday, July 11th at the German-American Club, 1840 Lincoln Ave. Donations may be made to the German-American Club Scholarship Fund.
