Orville was born on the family farm to Henry A. and Anna Pingel Roggow. He attended and graduated from Brook Consolidated School. He later attended Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Mo. While attending college, Orville met his future wife, Linda M. Beckman. Orville and Linda were united in marriage Sept. 22, 1940, near Athol, Kan. Orville and Linda were the parents of 5 children. The couple lived in Kansas City, Mo., until 1942 when the moved to a farm near Athol, Kan. In 1945, the family moved to the Roggow farm in Cherokee County, Iowa. They farmed until purchasing the Le Mars Motel in 1967. While operating the motel, Orville had worked for Building Center for a couple of years. In 1969, Orville became an Iowa meat inspector where he inspected locker plants throughout the area. He retired from this position in 1983. In 1975, Orville converted the Motel into apartments. In 1979 they built their home in Le Mars on Remer Drive and sold the apartments. During his retirement years, Orville enjoyed doing custom framing of pictures. He continued this until the last year or so. In his younger years, he enjoyed taking his children fishing at Casey's Dam near Cherokee. He also enjoyed working with leather. Orville was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars and had served his church as an Elder, Trustee, and on the Evangelism Board. Church involvement and support was very important to Orville and Linda. Orville was also a longtime member of the Le Mars Lions Club. He was a past president and was honored with the Warren Coleman Award by the Iowa Lions Foundation. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Linda on March 2, 2000; a son, Norman; a brother, Melvin Roggow; a sister, Viola Drevs; and a great-grandson, Jason Fraser. He died Christmas Day at Good Samaritan Village (Brentwood) in Le Mars at age 87.
