The Funeral Of Florence T. Pfister, 91, of 909 N. Main St., Bloomington, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, and at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church, Bloomington, the Rev. John J. Dietzen officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, El Paso. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the rosary recited at 7 p.m. She died at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 13, 1996) at BroMenn Lifecare Center, Bloomington. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Church, 79 W. Third St., El Paso, Ill. 61738, or the American Cancer Society.

Immediate area survivors include a sister-in-law, Helen Pfister, 601 E. Second St., El Paso; a nephew and niece-in-law, Jerry and Sharon Smith Pfister, and grandnephews, Jay and Kevin Pfister, P.O. Box 6, El Paso; a niece, Josephine Pfister, 416 E. Emerson St., No. A, Bloomington; a nephew-in-law, Frank J. Whalen, 15 Norbloom Ave., Bloomington; a grandnephew, Frank J. Whalen III, 809 Horseshoe Drive, Joliet; and a grandniece, Julia Whalen Basting, 309 Felmley Drive, Normal.

Immediate survivors living elsewhere include nephews, Philip Pfister, Chicago; Leo Pfister, Kinston, N.C.; and Dan Pfister, Palos Heights; and nieces, Mary K. Pfister McCall, Oshkosh, Wis.; Lucile Pfister Wachter, Escondido, Calif.; Delores Pfister Cassidy, Jasper, Ind.; and Rosemary T. Pfister Cox, Oak Brook.

A total of 17 grandnephews; 16 grandnieces; 19 great-grandnephews; and 14 great-grandnieces survive.

Cousins include descendants of Florence's maternal grandparents, Joseph and Mary Simon Haas - four beloved uncles and two aunts (Joseph, Andrew, Ralph, Arch, Theresa Haas Kinsella and Alma Haas Fulton); and descendants of her paternal grandparents, Thomas and Mary Raoul Pfister - one uncle and one aunt (Francis Pfister and Dora Pfister Sutton).

Florence was born Jan. 25, 1905, in El Paso, the third daughter and fifth child of John Lester and Emma Haas Pfister. She was preceded in death by her father (July 13, 1905); her mother (March 27, 1955); by two brothers - Lloyd F. Pfister (Sept. 21, 1960) and Lester J. Pfister (May 27, 1970); and two sisters - Mabel Pfister Smith (Jan. 7, 1953) and S. Clarine Pfister, O.P. (Dec. 7, 1989).

She also was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, John J. Smith (Feb. 24, 1955); a sister-in-law, Edith Gordon Pfister (July 29, 1977); a nephew, Walter F. Pfister (Dec. 5, 1982); a niece-in-law, Marjorie Heinz Pfister (Aug. 11, 1981); two infant children of Lester and Helen Pfister; a nephew-in-law, James J. Cassidy (May 16, 1984); a niece, Joan Smith Whalen (July 30, 1993); and a grandniece, Mary Josephine Pfister (May 13, 1972).

Florence attended Hodgson Grade School in El Paso; St. Joseph Academy, Bloomington; McKinley High School, El Paso; and graduated from the Academy of Our Lady, Peoria, June 15, 1922.

She worked for an insurance company in El Paso, then was employed in the Aetna Farm Loan Department of Hudson Burr and Co., Bloomington. There Florence met her beloved friend, Catharyn Callahan, who preceded her in death (March 18, 1980).

In 1936, Florence became secretary for the Pfister Hybrid Corn Co., El Paso. She worked as office supervisor for 37 years until her retirement on Jan. 1, 1974.

The Daily Pantagraph sponsored a contest among 100 businesswomen in Bloomington-Normal and Central Illinois. On Sept. 25, 1937, Florence received the "Most Charming Business Girl in Central Illinois" award ($25), an honor she shared with Miss Sylvia Goddard, "Most Charming Business Girl in Bloomington-Normal."

Following her retirement, Florence volunteered as secretary for the American Cancer Society, then became treasurer of Mennonite Hospital's gift shop until 1993.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Church, Bloomington, for 43 years.
