L. Dewey Spencer, 93, of Buchanan, MI, passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at Riveridge Manor, Niles, MI. Dewey was born May 21, 1928 in Buchanan, MI to the late Vera and Carl Mitchell. At a young age Dewey lost his father. His mother remarried later on to LeRoy A. Spencer, whom adopted Dewey and raised him as his own.
Dewey graduated from Buchanan High School. On August 23, 1950, Dewey married Joanne Lee Breland in Buchanan, MI. Dewey was enlisted in the Army during the Korean war in 1952 until honorably discharged in 1954. He worked at Buchanan Steel until his retirement.
He is survived by his son, Tim (Jan) Spencer; grandchildren, Susan Spencer, Brian (Sara) Spencer; and great-granddaughters, Alyxandria, Ariana, and Aubrey.
Dewey is preceded in death by his father, Carl Mitchell (FAG 88661483 ) ; mother, Vera Spencer; dad, LeRoy A. Spencer (FAG 87274498); wife, Joanne Spencer; brothers, Lee Spencer, Bob Spencer; and sister, Delma Fowler.
Funeral services for Dewey will be held at 5 pm on Friday, August 13, 2021 at Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan, MI. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Galien Cemetery, Galien, MI.
