J. W. Hartrampf, a highly esteemed and respected citizen of Hillsboro, passed away at the Nesbeth Sanitarium., Portland, Thursday, October 31, 1912, after suffering several months from a stroke of partial paralysis. For twenty-six years he has made his home in Washington County, and he leaves a host of friends who deplore his death.
Mr. Hartrampf was born in Prussia, May 10, 1846, and came to America when he was but 14 yeaars of age. His family settled in Wisconsin in 1860. At the age of twenty-two he enlisted in Company E, 7th Wisconsin Infantry, and joined the regiment near Petersburg, Va., early in 1865. He was mustered out of the service at Jeffersonville, Ind., in July of that year. Returning home he was married to Fredericka Wilhelmina Hoppe, in Dodge County, Wis., Nov. 18, 1866. They later moved to Minnesota, and in 1886 came to Oregon, settling near Cornelius.
The widow and the following children survive: Mrs. Elizabeth Thiess, Cherry Grove, Ore.: Wm, F., Forest Grove; Robert C., Ferdinand E., Albert J., Otto B. and the Misses Amanda and Minnie, all of Hillsboro.
The funeral took place Saturday at two o'clock in the afternoon, services being held in, the Methodist Church. Interment was in the Odd Fellows' Cemetery.
Mr. Hatrampf was well known at Forest Grove, Cornelius and Hillsboro, having resided here for a number of years. He was the soul of integrity, a good neighbor, and a man of sympathetic disposition.
Four children born to the unioin preceded the father in death: Charles died in 1903, Gustave died in 1901, Henry died Jan. 13, 1906., in Hillsboro, and Benjamin died in infancy.
