Born on March 16, 1910, in Baltimore, MD, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Robert Gamble See and Louisa D. (Spear) See. She relocated to Floyd, VA with her family, where she was raised and educated. In addition to a Bachelor's degree from Mary Baldwin College, she earned a Master's degree from the New York Theological Seminary and her Doctorate from New York University.
Dr. See began her professional life in teaching at Spellman College and later was on the faculty of Virginia Commonwealth University. She had also worked for the Presbyterian Church on the board of Christian Education in Richmond. The last position she held, prior to retirement, was in historical research at the Historical Foundation of the former Montreat College in North Carolina.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Katherine A. See and brother, Robert Gamble See Jr., as well as two nephews.
She is survived by four nieces and four nephews; five great nieces and eight great nephews; and, a number of great-great nieces and nephews.
