Billy Ray Sowder

Mr. Billy Ray Sowder, age 74, husband of Lavada, passed away Tuesday, August 10th, 2021, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

Billy was born December 17th, 1946, in Mount Vernon, Kentucky, a son of the late Walter C. Sowder, and Sadie Mullins Sowder. He proudly served his country in the US Army, between the years of 1966 and 1968. After his discharge, he was united in marriage to his wife Lavada Smith on June 28th, 1968, and from that marriage came one child: David Ray. Bill was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Maple Grove Baptist Church. He was a proud member of the VFW, and of the American Legion; and enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, off road Jeeping, and wood working.

Those left to celebrate his life are his wife of 52 years: Lavada Smith Sowder of Brodhead, KY; a son: David Ray Sowder and Deanna of Mt. Vernon, KY; grandchildren: Christopher Sowder and Sebrina of Brodhead, KY, and Anthony Tyler Sowder and Heaven Smith of Brodhead, KY; great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Marie Sowder, Brianna Aliya Sowder, and Zayliegh Isabella Sowder; a brother Carl Wayne Sowder and Terry Hail of Mt. Vernon, KY; as well as a host of many cousins, friends, and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services for Mr. Billy Ray Sowder will be held at the Marvin E. Owens Home for funerals, beginning with the visitation on Saturday, August 14th, 2021, from 6pm-9pm. Funeral will be Sunday, August 15th, 2021, at 2pm, with Bro. Jerry Owens and Randy McFerron officiating. Burial will follow in the Skaggs Creek Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Christopher and Anthony Sowder, Josh Cheatham, Scottie Sowder, Joe Barron, Phillip Carpenter, and honorary casket bearer Noah Mink.
