Clarence attended school at Christ Lutheran School. Clarence married Shirley Rector in March of 1940 in Fremont, NE. He farmed for a while in the Platte County area. He went to work for Nielsen Chevrolet and then owned the Studebaker Dealership in Columbus for many years. Clarence then went to work for Prudential Life Insurance Co. and worked for them for 45 years. In February of 1977 he married Betty Oxley in Lincoln, NE. He retired from prudential in 2000. He was active in the Columbus Chamber of Commerce and also the Columbus Jr. Chamber of Commerce. Clarence was formerly on the Columbus City Council and a member of the Evening Lions Club. In Lincoln, he was a member of the Executive Club and First Lutheran Church.
