Johann or John "George" was born 5 Sept. 1898 in Schwab, Russia. He and his parents moved to Oakley, Kansas, U.S.A. in 1909. Five years later, his parents and family moved to Lockwood, Saskatchewan and took up farming on a homestead. Later George was employed by the C.P.R. railway as a section foreman. He married Catherine Scherle/Kelin in Duval, Saskatchewan on 26 July 1926. They had three children: Frank, Olga and Jessie. In 1946, the family moved to Esk, Saskatchewan. In 1951, they moved to Colonsay, since he had an advancement with the C.P.R. and wanted to move closer to Saskatoon. Catherine died in Saskatoon in 1962. George retired in 1963 and moved to Saskatoon. He died on 3 January 1988 in Kerrobert Hospital while staying with his daughter, Olga. He was buried in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Saskatoon.
