Mona Faye Meier, daughter of Burnett and Bernetta (Morrison) Sturm, was born August 6, 1949 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She attended Thomas Jefferson High School where she graduated with the class of 1967. She furthered her education at Dana College in Blair, Nebraska where she obtained her education degree for teaching.
She was baptized and a former member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She then became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Persia where she spent her time teaching Sunday School and VBS. Mona was united in marriage to Fred Meier on April 10, 1971 & shortly after became parents to their children Duane & Dawnell Meier where they resided on Fred's family farm in Persia, Iowa.
After losing her husband in 2011, Mona moved to Council Bluffs, which soon after became her new home. She enjoyed spending her mornings playing cards at the Boys and Girls Club as well as the YMCA. In the evenings she was an active player of bingo at the Eagles Club. Mona always had a warm smile and a friendly word for everyone which helped her gain many new friends along the way. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were extremely important to her and she loved spending time with them. She was always willing to lend a hand to those in need and would never hesitate to ask for something in return. Some of her most favorite activities included christmas concerts, broadway shows, reading books, shopping and playing games, especially when she won.
Mona passed away unexpectedly in her home on Friday, June 25, 2021 in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 71. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Duane Meier; her children, Duane William Meier and Dawnell Faye (Meier) Holland; and her sister, Diane L. Sturm. She is survived by her grandchildren, Courtney Holland of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Harley and Trisha Meier of Burton Michigan, Mikayla and Josh Anderson of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Brandy and Austin Steinkuehler of Woodbine, Iowa, Nikki and Josh Maguire of Quick, Iowa, and Cody and Denise Pester of Council Bluffs, Iowa; her great-grandchildren, Abel Kibowen, Jordan and Abigail Meier, Gavin Anderson, Brayden and Austin Hinkel, Bentley and Rhyder Beverage, and Riley, Regin and Emorie Pester; brother, Roger and Gayle Sturm of Omaha, Nebraska; sisters, Denise Jones of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Gloria and Kevin Cutkomp of Layton, Utah, and Cheryl Sturm of Council Bluffs, Iowa; nieces; nephews; many other family members and friends.

Visitation Tuesday, June 29, 2021 from 5-7pm at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral Service Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Fred Duane Meier, the son of Fred William and Edna Florence (Dobernecker) Meier was born at home near Persia, Iowa on July 11, 1937. He attended school in Persia, and graduated from Persia High School, with the class of 1955. During his high school days, Fred was an active catcher on the Persia High school baseball Team. After high school, Fred farmed for Harold Dollen until the death of his father in 1963. He returned to Persia at that time and took over the family farm. Fred was united in marriage to Mona Sturm on April 10, 1971 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Two children were born to this union, Duane and Dawnell.

Throughout the years, Fred worked for Meadow Gold Dairy, General Woodworking and the Iowa Highway Commission at Neola, Iowa. He retired in 1999, where he enjoyed his home with his family. For many years, Fred was a member of the Shelby Saddle Club where he enjoyed riding with friends and family. He also enjoyed playing cards with his family, especially when he won. Fred was quick to volunteer and always could be counted on when he was needed.

He died on November 25, 2011 at Alegent Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa having attained the age of 74 years, 4 months and fourteen days. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Dawnell and two sisters, Delores and Edna.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Mona of Persia, Iowa his son Duane of Council Bluffs, Iowa, six grandchildren, Brandy, Cody, Nicole, Courtney, Harley and Mikayla; His siblings, sister, Regina Schmidt of Avoca, Iowa, sister Lotus Martin and her husband Marion of Harlan, Iowa, sister, Lavonne and her husband Nick Springman of Portsmouth, Iowa, brother, Robert Meier and his wife Janet of Irwin, Iowa, brother, Ron Meier and his wife Gloria of Tabor, Iowa, brother, Richard Meier and his wife Kathy of Tabor, Iowa and sister, Deanna and her husband Marvin Huebner of Persia, Iowa, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Rev. Merlene Ostebee officiated the 10:30 AM funeral service on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Persia, Iowa. Music was provided by Judy Iwen and Fred�s nephews were the honorary casket bearers. Serving as casket bearers were Rob Huebner, Scott Huebner, Harley Meier, Jeff Schmidt, Cody Pester, and Mike Meier. Interment was held at the Valley View Cemetery in Persia, Iowa.
