Nancy R. Hickey, 91, of Berwick and formerly of Danville passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at Geisinger Medical Center. She was born on January 1, 1930, at the Bloomsburg Hospital; the first child born to the late Marjorie (Wenner) and Gomer Fetterolf of Catawissa. She attended the former Catawissa School and graduated in May of 1947. She was married shortly after graduation and had two sons. That marriage ended in divorce in 1965. In 1966, she started college, attending evening classes while working full time in a factory. She graduated from Bloomsburg State College in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education. She taught in that field for the next 20.5 years. In February of 1973, she married Ronald Hickey, and they moved to Red Lane in Danville. They both loved to travel and during their married life, visited all 50 states, all but two Canadian Provinces, much of Mexico, and dozens of other countries and islands. When they got tired of globetrotting, they bought a house in Leesburg, Florida, spending their winters there from 1994 to 1999. Ronald entered a nursing home in 2000 to receive care for Alzheimer's disease. His passing in 2007 ended a marriage span of 34 years. In 2003, she sold the house on Red Lane and moved to a smaller home near Danville. Later, she bought her present home at Brookside Villages. She was of the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Hidlay Lutheran Church. She was very fond of the church and loved helping with luncheons and fundraisers. She also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards, lunch and shopping with friends, and spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Ronald; she was preceded in death by all of her aunts and uncles. She will be missed by her sons: Reverend John Grodzinski and wife Maureen of Florida; Daniel Grodzinski of Annville; her grandchildren: Ryan and wife Sky; Tyler and wife Karen; Matthew and wife Suzy; Ethan and wife Tamera; Sarah Brashear and husband Adam; Tammy Navarra and husband Bill; and great-grandchildren: McKenzie, Riley and Landon; niece Cherie Haugney and husband Dan; nephew Trevor Snyder and wife Clair; and a sister, Margo Snyder and husband Al. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Christ Memorial Episcopal Church in Danville, officiated by Deacon Jim Jenkins. Burial will take place at a later date, at the Episcopal Cemetery in Danville. Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
