WALTER F. "WALT" HERGERT

Walter F. "Walt" Hergert, 85, a longtime resident of the Forest Grove community, died Friday morning, November 3, 2006 at the Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Specialty Care Center.
A Celebration of Walt's Life will be held on Friday, November 10, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. at the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 2327 – 17th Avenue in Forest Grove, with the Reverend Daniel C. Bohlken, officiating. Concluding Rites and Vault Interment will follow at 3:00 P.M. at the Fir Lawn Memorial Park, 1070 W. Main Street in Hillsboro, Oregon. Flag Honor Presentation will be under the direction of the American Legion Washington Post #2 in Forest Grove.
Family and friends are invited to attend a luncheon immediately following the ceremony to be held in the fellowship room in the basement of the church.
WALTER FREDRICK "WALT" HERGERT was born October 26, 1921 in Nampa, Idaho, the son of Philip Hergert and Katherine (Oppenlander) Hergert. At the age of two years old he moved with his family to the Mountaindale community, where he was raised and received his education.
He was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army in the Philippines.
Walter was united in marriage to Geraldine Lillian "Jerry" Colby on September 25, 1948 in Vancouver, Washington. Following their marriage they resided in North Plains, Oregon, until 1961 when they moved to Hillsboro. They lived in Hillsboro for twenty-seven years, until 1988 when they moved to the Forest Grove community.
Walt was preceded in death by his wife, Jerry, on July 24, 1995, after celebrating over forty-six years of marriage.
In his younger years, Walt had worked in the logging industry and various jobs. He later worked in the construction industry, having co-owned and operated with his son, Phil, "Hergert Asphalt Paving Company" in Hillsboro, until 1987 when he retired.
While living in the Hillsboro community, Walt was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. He later transferred his membership to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Forest Grove.
Among his special interests he enjoyed hunting and fishing,
Walt was preceded in death by his parents, his four brothers, Alvin Hergert, Andy Hergert, Elmer Hergert and Paul Hergert; and his sister, Mildred Keenon.
Survivors include his two sons and a daughter-in-law, Phillip W. and Lois Hergert, of Forest Grove, Oregon; and Raymond L. Hergert, of Forest Grove, Oregon; his daughter and son-in-law, Darlene S. and Lloyd Harris, of Hillsboro, Oregon; and his brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Ilene Hergert, of Clallam Bay, Washington.
Also surviving are his five grandchildren, Christine and her husband, Rayan Sreshta, of Camas, Washington; April and her husband, Todd Leeman, of Aloha, Oregon; Angela and her husband, Steve Pachaco, of McMinnville, Oregon; Amy and her husband, Chris Thompson, of McMinnville, Oregon; and Kathleen and her husband, Elias Villerral, of Newberg, Oregon; his fourteen great-grandchildren, Whitney Hergert, Darshan Sreshta, Kesheva Sreshta and Narayani Shreshta, all of Camas, Washington; Vanessa Hergert, Christopher Hergert and Caitlyn Pachaco, all of McMinnville, Oregon; Tanner Leeman and Kyle Leeman, both of Aloha, Oregon; Kaleb Villarreal, Logan Villarreal and Evan Villarreal, all of Newberg, Oregon; Makayla Hergert and Khody Hergert Thompson, both of McMinnville, Oregon; and several nieces and nephews.
The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions to the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church Building Fund, 2327 – 17th Avenue, Forest Grove, Oregon 97116, in his memory.
