John graduated from Albert G. Parrish High School in 1965, Livingston University in 1969, and Webster University in 1974. Following graduation from Livingston, he entered the U.S. Air Force retiring in 1993 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. While in the Air Force, John served in Iceland, South Korea and numerous bases in the continental United States. John worked for the City of Selma Cemetery Department for 10 years, retiring in 2021 as the Cemetery Superintendent.
One of John's passions was supporting our veterans through his active membership in the American Legion Post 20 for the last decade, most recently serving as Adjutant. John grew up as a member of Central Baptist Church where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord. Most recently he was an active member of Elkdale Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 26, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Elkdale Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at the church.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, contributions to Elkdale Baptist Church in John's memory.
