She was born February 18, 1914 in North Judson the daughter of Gustav and Anna Ottilie (Grabow) Spenner and graduated from North Judson High School in 1932. Esther worked at Lowenstine's Department Store from 1940-1942 and then worked as a secretary in the Sales Department of McGill's Manufacturing for 25 years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and their Elderjoy group.
On May 20, 1967 in Valparaiso, she married Leonard Zak who preceded her in death in 2000. Survivors include three stepdaughters: Lenora (Roy) Stewart, Jeanette Byous and Sylvia (Richard) Smith all of Phoenix, AZ; two nephews: Herbert Uffelman of Fort Wayne and Dale Spenner of Hoffman Estates, IL; niece, Andrea Smolek of Sellersburg; and four step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters; Lydia Uffelman and Ruth Troeger and two brothers, Walter and Edwin Spenner.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, 11:00 AM in the All Saints Chapel at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1700 N. Monticello Park Dr., Valparaiso, Rev. Steve Bongard officiating with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery in North Judson. Visitation Wednesday from 10 -11 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, All Saints Chapel.
