Funeral services for Ernest L. Waldrop, 78, formerly of Slater, will be conducted today at 3 p.m. at The Mackey Mortuary by Rev. Charles T. Thompson and Rev. W. O. Weathers. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Ernest Gene Burns, Ronnie Waldrop, Jimmy Waldrop, Denny Waldrop, Billy Cooley and Harvey Buderick.
Honorary escort will be Roy Whitmire, Roy C. Daniel, Paul E. Cline, M. Clyde Tilley, Lee Lell, J. M. Dean, J. C. Hayden, Dr. A. P. Duff, Charles Eskew, Horace Loftis, James Waldrop and Claude Lee Sprouse.
Mr. Waldrop died Monday at 3 p.m. in a Greer nursing home following one year of declining health.
A lifelong resident of Greenville County, he was a son of the late Jordan and Tiny (Davidson) Waldrop.
For many years, Mr. Waldrop lived in the Moonville community, where he farmed, and worked for several years at Slater plant of J. P. Stevens & Co., Inc.
He was a member of Slater Baptist Church.
His wife, Mrs. Necy Lister Waldrop, died December 17, 1957.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. W. K. Burns of Anderson and Lt. Cmdr. Ruby E. Waldrop of Charleston; six sons, Milford, Rufus, Charles and Donald Waldrop of Greenville and Truman and Alvin Waldrop of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; a sister, Mrs. C. C. Waldrop of Charlotte, North Carolina; a brother, E. P. Waldrop of Woodville on the Augusta Road; 17 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
The body is at the mortuary. The family is at the home of Charles Waldrop, 104 Linda Lane, off Old Buncombe Road.
