Carl F. Tanking, 94, of Seneca, Kansas, died Saturday, January 26, 2002, at a Seneca care home where he had been a resident for five days.

He was born October 31, 1907, on the family farm northeast of Seneca, a twin son, and one of ten children born to William and Agnes Klunenberg. He grew up there, attended Sts. Peter & Paul School in Seneca, worked on the family farm, helped local farmers shuck corn and cut firewood. He was a lifetime farmer and stockman.

On April 8, 1931, he married Mildred Winkler at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. They lived and farmed east of Seneca and south of Centralia before moving to a farm south of Baileyville in 1944. They retired and moved to Seneca in 1969. They celebrated their 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries and had been married for over 70 years at the time of his death.

He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, the St. Joseph Society at the church, and the Knights of Columbus #1769 all at Seneca. He was a former member of Sacred Heart Church at Baileyville, Kansas. He was also a member of the Farmers Union and had served on the Center Township Board. He received the Banker's Award for Soil conservation. Carl loved fishing, and he and his wife "Millie" often went fishing together.

Survivors are his wife, Mildred of Seneca; a son Leonard Tanking of Vermillion, Kansas; two daughters, Patricia Dalinghaus of Seneca, and Joan Boyd of Olathe, Kansas; a sister, Rosie Minor of Sabetha, Kansas; five granddaughters and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a infant son, William Carl Tanking on January 10, 1936; five brothers, Paul, his twin, Albert, Edward, Lawrence "Doc", and an infant, Raymond; three sisters, Laurentia "Mickey" Peppersack, and infants, Bernardine and Rosalia.

The rosary will be prayed Sunday at 2 P.M. and a vigil prayer service will be conducted at 7 P.M. Sunday at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. The mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 A.M. Monday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. The burial will be in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
