Old Settler Dies Following A Stroke
Rudolph Kotz Was Stricken Friday and Died That Night
Following a paralytic stroke which he suffered about noon on Friday, Rudolph G. Kotz died Friday night after being unconscious for several hours. About three years ago he had his first stroke at which time he was confined to his bed for a period of five months. The attack from which he succumbed was probably hastened by over exertion as about an hour before he was stricken he had pumped up a tire on his automobile.
Rudolph G. Kotz was born in Ashenfort, Province of Posen, Germany, on January 12th, 1862. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Kotz and one of eight children. He received his grade education in Germany and in 1883 came with his parents to southern Minnesota where they settled on a farm. In 1880 he married Miss Alvina Kaeding to which union five children were born, four of whom survive, Arthur of Maiden Rock, Wis., Mrs. J. B. Walker of LaPasco, Texas, Mrs. J. H. Kiner of Janesville and Walter of St. Paul.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon with services at the house at 1 o'clock and at the Trinity Lutheran church at 2 o'clock. The services were read in German by Rev. Winter and in English by Rev. Kuether of Smiths Mill of whose congregation he was a member before moving to Janesville six years ago. He was buried in the Smiths Mill cemetery. The following were the pallbearers: Gus Stankey, Reinhold Ewert, Wm. Tarno, Chris Grams, Herman Ewert and Robert Trahms.
Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kotz of Maiden Rock, Wis., Walter Kotz of St. Paul, Mr. and Mrs. Kaeding and family of Truman, Mr. and Mrs. Dittberner and family of Good Thunder, Paul and Fred Kotz of Bertha and Mrs. Julius Kotz of Mankato.
The Argus joins with the many friends of the family in expressing sympathy to them in their bereavement.
