He retired in 2002 from the janitorial department in the co-recreational gymnasium at Purdue University. He had been employed there for 15 years and earlier had been employed at Jeff Boat Company in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
He enjoyed fishing, vegetable gardening, hiking, outdoor activities and auto racing.
He was surved by two sons, a daughter, a brother, four sisters, and ten grandchildren.
Mr. Scowden was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
He was a veteran of the Air Force.
