A Celebration of Life gathering will be 11:00 a.m., to 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 8, at the Mechanicsville Memorial Building in Mechanicsville. A luncheon will be served at 1:00 p.m., following the services. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville, Iowa.
Jenira Luell Johnson was born December 9, 1924, in Cedar County, the daughter of Clifford and Frieda (Lehrman) Johnson. She graduated from Davenport Central High School in 1943. She married Melvin Edward Thien on February 20, 1944, in Tipton. Together they farmed near Tipton, where they raised their three children. She turned the garage into her quilting business and they also owned a dry cleaning business and laundromat in Stanwood. She also drove a school bus. Melvin preceded her in death on April 24, 1979. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Mechanicsville. She enjoyed coffee hour with her friends, playing cards and an occasional margarita. Above all, she loved the time she spent with her family.
Surviving are two sons, Timothy (Susan) Thien of Ames and Tarrance (Vicki) Thien of Mechanicsville; five grandchildren, Megan (Jeff) Blazavich, Brandi (Chris) Gniffke, Kari (Matt) Phillips, Kelsey Thien and Joe Thien; and one great-grandchild, Tristian Gniffke.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Melinda Mittelstadt, twin grandchildren, Kelli and Kris Thien and one sister, June Geiger.
