A native of Durham County, she was the wife of Curtis Ray Barber, who survives and the wife of the late Joe Way, and the daughter of Thomas Raymond Cheek and Rosa Lee Ball Cheek, both deceased. She was a former deputy clerk for the Orange County Clerk of Court and the Alamance County Clerk of Court, working 52 years in the Judicial System. She was called the "Jail House Queen". Patricia was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, the Caleb Club; and Golden Harmonies. She was honored as Mother of the Year 2001.
In addition to her husband of their home, survivors include two daughters, Pamela Church and husband James of Burlington and Christal Way-Payne and husband Jason of Haw River; step-daughter, Shelia Barber of Kernersville; and three grandchildren, Kaleigh Church, Taryn Payne, and Tyler Payne.
The funeral service will be conducted at Bethel Baptist Church on Monday, February 7, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. David Jackson and Rev. Scott London with the family receiving friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 238 Dixon Road, Graham, NC 27253.
