Sara grew up on a farm with 8 siblings and they all had many responsibilities, but also freedom to enjoy the outdoors. On the farm they grew many seasonal crops and raised animals. Sara was a part of the family team and picked anything from cotton to corn and tomatoes. Rumor has it she did not much enjoy having to milk the cows.
There was also time to have fun and Sara and her sisters and brothers enjoyed climbing trees, going to the roller-skating rink, and attending the church socials. After graduation from High School, Sara went to business school in Augusta, GA, then to Washington DC to start her first job.
Sara was married to the love of her life Eugene Joyce for 59 years until his passing in September 2021. They met in Washington D.C. and since lived in many locations around the United States including Florida and California, finally settling in San Antonio Texas for the last 18 years.
Sara's children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Fond family memories include trips to the zoo, the beach, the parks, and vacations to see relatives. She made some of best home cooked meals one could imagine. She took great pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.
Sara loved to vacation with her family and was especially fond of cruising. She enjoyed visiting many different places and spending time visiting with family members that she did not get to see often. She kept up with those she could not personally visit with by regular phone calls to share news and discuss the topics of the day.
Sara enjoyed attending her local church and was especially fond of bible study sessions with her fellow members where they would discuss in depth interpretations of the scriptures. She prided herself on studying and discussing the word of God.
She is survived by her brother George Hattaway and wife Amy, sister Maria Gregg and husband William, sister Jeanne Seymour and husband Lynn her children son Marc and wife Letty and daughter Machelle, her grandchildren, Heather, Amanda, Katie, Collin, Evan, great granddaughter Emmalyn as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene, sister Helen, brother Billy, sister Zuline, brother Hensley, sister Peggy and grandson Jason. Sara will be interred along with her husband at Houston National Cemetery.
