Thurman Jay "Buddy" Gates, 72, of McLellan, FL, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2022.

Buddy was born and raised in Pensacola, FL. He has been a resident of McLellan, FL for the past 23 years. He graduated from Woodham High School where he played in the band and was involved in many clubs. He made lifelong friendships there. He then attended Pensacola Junior College where he met his wife, Phyllis. He worked at Gulf Power Company as a lineman and later as a Supervisor for 39 years. During that time he served as President of the Labor Council. He is a member of Stump Springs Baptist Church. He was a man of God and loved the Lord. He was a man of his word and even did business with a hand shake. My Dad always said what he meant and meant what he said. He was always strong and true. A family man and a friend to the community. He enjoyed serving his community through serving in his Masonic Lodge. He was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner of the Scottish Rite. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family.

He was There will be visitation at Lewis Funeral Home on Thursday, February 17, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Lewis Funeral Home on Friday, February 18, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the McLellan Cemetery with a Masonic Funeral, and Lewis Funeral Home directing.
