Constantin was born in Austria-Hungary near the town of Ivanovci located in the Carpathian Mountains. He was bilingual and equally fluent in both Hungarian and his native Carpatho-Rus in childhood. In 1910 he arrived in America, and in 1926 at age 32, he married Mary Watona, the daughter of George and Anna Vatunya. Over the years Constantin's nickname of "Kosty" slowly evolved to "Christ" as in Christopher. The name Christ was first officially used on 29 Nov 1936 at the Greene Co Courthouse in Waynesburg, PA when he became an American citizen.

Christ Lagojda labored as a coal miner for 45 years. His name is engraved upon the Greene County Coal Miners Monument.

He was the father of three sons: Charles, George, and Paul.
