Dr. Schmidt is survived by his wife, Eleanor Schmidt of Gainesville, FL; daughter, Viki Schmidt of Austin, TX; son, Richard Schmidt Jr. of Syracuse; stepchildren, Stephen Kaufman (Valette), Joshua Kaufman and Claire Kaufman-Brown (Mark); and six grandchildren.
