Gussie Emilie Steenken (Sug) Zowarka, Child of God, passed away July 26, 2022, in Winter Haven, FL. She was born January 18, 1924, in Stockdale, Texas, to Lupold and Elda Schmidt Steenken. She married John Alfred Zowarka, Jr. on December 2, 1944; they made their home in San Antonio, Texas. She worked as an administrative assistant for 37 years at Trinity University. She enjoyed sewing, all needle crafts and reading. She moved to Winter Haven, FL in 1996.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Alfred; and her young son, John Charles.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jane Z. and Nat West; grandchildren, Shane and Kalen; and great grandchildren, Kaden and Carley.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at 11:00AM at First Presbyterian Church, Winter Haven. A Memorial and Interment Service will be held at a later date in the Fall in San Antonio, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Polk Training Center, P.O. Box 1345, Lake Alfred, FL 33850-1345, (a plant nursery & day training center for developmentally disabled adults) or the charity of your choice.
