Ray's first job after graduating from Eastern Washington University was teaching and coaching at Coupeville, Washington on Whidbey Island, a job leaving him with many fond memories. Ray volunteered for active duty in 1964, rising from E-1 recruit to Colonel in his 32 years of service, honorably served and faithfully executed.
His service included two tours in Vietnam, two three-year posts in Europe, and posts in Virginia, Hawaii, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Washington State.
In retirement, his focus was on family and friends. One of his great pleasures was helping his children and others remodel and build their homes and businesses.
