Retired Army Colonel Raymond Charles Olmstead passed away on April 20, 2022, in Palm Desert. He was born to Robert Olmstead and Anna (Schell) Olmstead on August 31, 1932. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley, and three children: David, Diane, and Douglas whom he loved dearly, and grandchildren whom he adored.

Ray's first job after graduating from Eastern Washington University was teaching and coaching at Coupeville, Washington on Whidbey Island, a job leaving him with many fond memories. Ray volunteered for active duty in 1964, rising from E-1 recruit to Colonel in his 32 years of service, honorably served and faithfully executed.

His service included two tours in Vietnam, two three-year posts in Europe, and posts in Virginia, Hawaii, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Washington State.

In retirement, his focus was on family and friends. One of his great pleasures was helping his children and others remodel and build their homes and businesses.
