Donald "Don" Wieling passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, April 10, 2017 at the Melrose Hospital due to complications following his fight with cancer. he was 72 years old.

Don was born on February 10, 1945 in Melrose, MN to his parents, Hugo and Rose (Holdvogt) Wieling. He graduated from Melrose High School in 1963. He was united in marriage on April 24, 1965 to Bernadette (Bernie) Thomes at St. Boniface Church in Cold Spring. He was a dairy farmer for much of his life, raising his family on their farm in Grove Township. He retired and moved to Melrose in 1994, and was always on the go between cutting the grass on the sod fields to sharpening blades for his small business he ran out of his home to finding where the fish were biting.

Don was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed hunting and outdoor activities with his family. He enjoyed playing cards, and was always ready for a game of 500 rummy. His humorous personality and sharp wit will be always rememberd, even if the joke was on you. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and always would have the time to listen and offer advice to anyone who asked. He will be turly missed by all who knew him.

Don is survived by his wife of 51 years Bernie, children Paula (Kevin) Peltz, Donna (Jeff) Thiemann, Sheila (Roman) Doll, Ronald (Dawn) Wieling, Allen (Joelene) Wieling, 18 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Also survived by his siter Joyce (Ted) Westendorf, and brother Delbert (Marian) Wieling, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugo and Rose Wieling, and brothers Norman Wieling and Roger Wieling.

A celebration of life will be on Monday, April 17, at Immaculate Conception Church in New Munich. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 pm, with mass starting at 6:00 pm, with lunch to follow in the church basement. Internment will be at a later date.
