Edward was a son of Mathias Grob who was born in Germany, came to Ohio, and finally settled in Leavenworth County, Kansas. Mathias and his family lived on the north side of the Kansas River across the bridge from De Soto, KS. Their farm was on the south side of the road and very close to the Kansas River bank.

Fred Grob was a brother of Mattie Large, Katherine Linden, and Emma Cobb. He had a brother, Edward Grob who lived in rural Douglas County, Kansas, near Eudora. The 1905 Census of Sherman Township, Leavenworth County, Kansas, states that Edward was born in Ohio. Edward was born in 1884, died in 1962, and is buried in Hesper Friends Church Cemetery, south of Eudora, KS.
