David John Harpenau, age 73, of Remsen, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, in Sioux Falls, SD.

A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with Father Timothy Pick officiating and Deacon Doug Heeren assisting. Burial will be at a later date at St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation with family present will be 4-6p.m. on Friday, and there will be a parish rosary and vigil prayer service at 5:00 p.m., all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Visitation will resume at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Services have been entrusted to the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.

Dave was born on Feb. 16, 1949, the son of Tony and Loretta (Warborg) Harpenau in Le Mars, IA. He was raised near Remsen and received his education at St. Mary's Catholic School, graduating in 1967. He then joined the Air National Guard.

On Jan. 30, 1971, he married Jeanne Gengler at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Oyens, IA. The couple made their home on a farm near Remsen.

Dave was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and past member of Catholic Order of Foresters. He enjoyed farming, red tractors, Pabst Blue Ribbon, John Wayne, watching westerns, playing cards, and driving around crop checking. He was a social butterfly and always helped if someone was in need. He loved his family.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne of Remsen; his four children, Jenn (Keith) Herold of Fort Atkinson, IA, Tony (Deb) Harpenau of Salix, IA, Chad (Jill) Harpenau of Le Mars, and Melissa (Jeremy) Jensen of Remsen; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerry (Marlene) Harpenau of Remsen; two sisters, Florine (Duane) Majeres of Remsen and Ruth (Steve) Heath of Plymouth, MN; a sister-in-law, Janice Harpenau of Remsen; in-laws, Bob (Marilyn) Gengler of Oyens, IA, Rick (Renee) Gengler of Port Orchard, WA, and Lynnette Miller of Le Mars; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by, his parents, Tony and Loretta; brother, Lloyd Harpenau; and in-laws, John and Lillian Gengler.

Casket bearers will be Jason Herold, Marcus Herold, Austin Jensen, Bryce Harpenau, Zackary Harpenau, William Harpenau, and Lane Harpenau.

Honorary bearers will be Kylie Jensen, Brianna Jensen, Whitney Jensen, Lillian Harpenau, Kassidy Harpenau, Lydia Harpenau, and Allyson Harpenau.
