Melba Greene Carlton, age 83, of Lenoir went peacefully to be in the presence of the Lord to await the Resurrection on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Lenoir HealthCare Center. She was born December 16, 1927 in Watauga County to the late Cline Triplett and Thelma Greene Watson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, V.L. Carlton; an infant daughter; and one grandchild.

Ms. Carlton was retired from the furniture industry and was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sons, Lee Carlton, Ralph Carlton, Rayvon Carlton and Clyde Carlton, all of Lenoir; five daughters, Katie Greene, Kaye Phillips, Ann Oaks, Dallie Carlton and Shirley Kiel, all of Lenoir; two brothers, Houston Watson of Taylorsville and Bill Watson of Lenoir; four sisters, Lula Hynes of Granite Falls, Mary Miller of Hickory, Dottie Williams of Conover and Jackie Watts of Lexington, KY; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Steve Butler. Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
