Born in Schonwalde, Germany, emigrated to USA in 1890. Siblings: Hedwig (aka Hattie) (William Hackenberger), Ida A., Herman A. (Anna Pacek), Paul, Berthold (Margaret Wilson), Emma C. (William Maloney). The Kolbe Family ran a bakery in the Detroit area; Emil was a druggist, his parents were William Kolbe and Pauline Welzel. Emil married Lillian Landrie Sept. 16, 1914 in Detroit, MI and had 5 sons: William Alexander (Evelyn Harrer), Carl Leo (Mary Grady, Mary Bartz), George Edward (Theresa Malone), Joseph Raphael (Gertrude Manns), Victor Francis (Elizabeth Moore). Emil was originally buried at Holy Cross in Detroit and later moved to Holy Sepulcher, date unknown.Obituary: "Emil B. Kolbe Requiem mass will be sung in Holy Redeemer Church at 10 a.m. Friday for Emil B. Kolbe, widely known West Side druggist, preceded by rites in the home, 1714 Campbell Ave., at 9:30. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Mr. Kolbe died at his home Wednesday. Born in Germany 59 years ago, he had lived here since he was 15 years old. For the last 26 years, he had owned a drug store at Vernor Highway and Campbell Ave. His widow, Lillian (nee Landrie); five sons, William, Carl, George, Joseph and Victor; three sisters, Ida, Mrs. Emma Maloney and Mrs. William [Hedwig aka Hattie] Hackenberger, and two brothers, Herman and Bert survive."

(the B. stood for Bruno; he chose that for his confirmation name from St. Bruno) Kolbe was born in Schonwalde, Kreis Frankenstein, Prussia to Wilhelm Kolbe and Lillian Hortense Landrie on 10 February 1875. He emigrated to Detroit, Michigan on 11 August 1890 aboard the ship, Suevia. He married Lillian Hortense Landrie on 16 September 1914 in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. They had 5 children: William Alexander Kolbe (Evelyn Mae Harrer), Carl Leo Kolbe (Mary Travers Grady, Mary Bartz), George Edward Kolbe (Theresa Catherine Malone), Joseph Raphael Kolbe (Gertrude Elizabeth Manns), Victor Francis Kolbe (Elizabeth Catherine Moore). Emil moved to Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, USA about 1890. He graduated from Detroit College of Medicine as a pharmacist in 1904. He owned Kolbe Drugs until his death.
