On February 25th, 2022, John D. Mason (J.D.), 94 of Statesville, passed away at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem following a brief illness.
He was born August 18th, 1927, in Yadkin County to the late David E. Mason and Maude Reneger Mason. He graduated from West Yadkin High School and shortly after entered into the U.S. Navy serving honorably on a troop transporter ship. He was always proud to have served in the Navy, and loved wearing his Navy cap.

In addition to his parents, J.D. was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Lillie Mae Darr Mason, whom he shared 68 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2015. He was also preceded in death by three sisters: Florence Mason, Theo Williams, and Kathleen Key; and a grandson Byron Mason.

John retired from Southern Screw Co. after 35 years, then did many years of part-time work mostly with Little Pigs Barbecue and The Statesville Civic Center.

J.D. was a lifetime member of the Landmark Church of God.

He is survived by three sons: Michael Mason (Sandy), Randy Mason (Sandy), and Brent Mason (Sheila). One granddaughter, Tonya Houpe (Gene), and five great grandchildren: Ethan, Hannah, Madison, Paxton, and Peyton. Also several nephews and nieces, as well as two step granddaughters and two step grandsons.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 4, 2022, at 11 am, at Landmark Church of God with Bishop Phil Pearson officiating. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service on Friday, March 4th, 2022, at 10 am. Burial with military honors will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens
