New Berlin. Passed to Eternal Life Sunday, October 23, 2022, age 92 years.

Jack was born on September 25, 1930 to Edmund and Isabel Schumacher in Wauwatosa. He attended Marquette University High School, then Marquette University where he met his wife Elaine at the Avalanche Ski Club where they made many of their lifelong friends. They were married in 1955. After Elaine was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis, Jack shouldered much of the caregiving and family responsibilities for their five children. He also was a devoted son and excellent elder caregiver for his own father, Ed, who lived to be 102.

Jack was a civil engineer working for the City of West Allis eventually becoming the City Engineer. "Concrete Jack" was a nickname earned for paving the streets of the City of West Allis, but it applies equally to his role as the foundation of his family. He was active in professional engineering societies and municipal engineering committees. Jack always had a joke, loved to talk to everyone, and made friends quickly and easily while maintaining lifelong friendships.

Jack was a Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, former officer of the State Section. Past President of the Marquette University Engineering Alumni Association, 1987 Alumni of the Year. National Caregiver of the Year of the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation. MQH Parish Council.

Beloved husband of the late Elaine (nee Hahn). Dear father of Robert (Patricia), Mary (Charles) Strehlow, Thomas (Pamela), James, and Cathryn (James) Christiansen. Grandfather of Nicholas (Margaret) Schumacher, Alexander (Abigail) Schumacher, Andrew Schumacher, Matthew (Kathleen) Strehlow, Eric (April) Strehlow, Lindsey (Joseph) Green, Christina (Kevin Psoter) Schumacher, Thomas (Elizabeth) Schumacher, Theresa Christiansen, and Joseph Christiansen. Great-grandfather of Patrick, Owen, Clare, Elizabeth, Luke, Matthew, Amelia, Emma, Eli, Simon, John, Benito, Francesco, Tallulah, Beatrix, Lev, and Eloise. Brother of the late Ruth Schumacher. Brother-in-law of Warren (Patricia) Hahn, Cynthia (Steven) Borchardt, and the late Russell (the late Mary Alyce) Hahn. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

The family would like to thank the staff of Congregational Home, Legacy Hospice, Aurora West Allis Medical Center, and Regency Senior Living Community for the attention and care they gave Jack over the last months and years.
