Born in a German Community in Soanovka, Omsk, Siberia to Henry Hess Sr and Katherine Bell; immigrated to the United States in 1903; first married Neale Glover in 1927. Neale and Henry had two children. Henry married Florence Ferreira in 1942. He worked as a label printer in the Oakland canneries for 30 years. Per his death certificate, he is buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward, California.
