Minerva was born May 21, 1941, in Kentucky, the daughter of Lewis Lee and Lora Hester Upthegrove Russell. She married Ray A. Evans March 20, 1960, in Weldon, and he passed away Jan. 22, 2001.
Minerva was an avid drag racer. She was a member of the Drag Racing Association of Women (DRAW). She was the creator of "WARD Bear," which was the toy bear given to injured drag racers across the country. Minerva was a fabulous cook and later owned and operated a catering and restaurant business in Cowden called Marmie's Kitchen. She was a devoted life partner to her husband, children and grandchildren.
Surviving are a son, Warren Ray Evans and fiancee April Jenkins of Charleston; daughters, Cheryl Dial and husband Phillip of Beecher City, Clatie Fischer and husband John of Normal and Cindy Bober and husband Richard of Beecher City; grandchildren, Jacob Stuart, Jenni Stuart, Ryan (Andy) Evans, Abbi Evans, Daniel Higgenbotham, Whitney Evans, Brittney Evans, Wesley Dial, Eilean Fischer, Garrison Fischer, Linus Fischer, Logan Gephart, Kaitlyn Bober and Lora Rae Bober; great-grandchildren, Makayla, Jaydon and Ryan; brother, Robert Russell and wife Phyllis of Tullahoma, Tenn.; sisters-in-law, Edith Fulks of Decatur, Jackie Evans of Orlando, Fla., June Evans of Pearland, Texas, Gene Keeler of Plainfield and Nancy Russell of Clinton; and brother-in-law, Louis Tucker of Cowden. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; parents; sister, Sarah Elizabeth Russell; and brother, Bill Russell.
