Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Jo Fielder Zappa, 74 were held at the Chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. John McClelland officiating. Interment followed at Salem Cemetery in Athens, LA.
Mrs. Zappa was born July 28, 1933 in Summerfield, LA to W.A. Fielder and Selma Brown Fielder. She entered into rest Tuesday Feb. 5, 2008 at Homer Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Zappa was a former schoolteacher at Athens, LA and Joaquin, TX and later a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, John J. Zappa, her parents, one sister Jean Fielder Bass and one brother A.B. "Brown" Fielder.
Mrs. Zappa is survived by one son Michael Stanley Zappa and wife Tracy of League City, TX; one daughter Jan Zappa Smith, of Homer; sisters: Janis Fielder Daniel, of Summerfield, and Dorothy Fielder Ferguson and husband John, of Homer; her wonderful grandson, Daniel Wayne Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Her family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. John Smith, Dr. Richard Zweig, the nurses and staff of the Homer Memorial Hospital ICU, HealthSouth Rehabilatation Hospital, Doug Glen and extra special thanks to Valerie Tuggle and Shirley Adkins.
